Story Idea: The Lucid Nightmare

I love it when characters from different stories are brought together. Even if their appearances are non-canon, I still find it interesting to see characters that have different source material interact with one another.

I recently came up with an idea for a horror novella that would bring lots of people, monsters and beings from various horror stories of mine in a single story. The premise is that the main character, Terry, has a lucid dream in which he encounters various characters and witnesses various phenomena from D. T. Adams’s horror e-books.

Terry loves the horror genre but he always finds TV shows and movies way scarier than books. He’s recently read every horror e-book by D. T. Adams and admits to his wife that he doesn’t find them frightening, disturbing or terrifying – he doesn’t get scared by words on a page.

That night, with D. T. Adams’s horror stories fresh in his mind, he has a lucid dream (more of a nightmare really!) where he’s in a hotel and he has to find the key if he wants to wake up. He’ll have to explore the hotel to find this key, though along the way he’ll meet quite a few unpleasant characters …

That’s the gist of the story. I haven’t started writing it yet but I will soon and it should be out sometime in 2024.

I haven’t decided which stories are going to be represented in this story just yet. Having said that, I’m planning for at least one story from every horror e-book of mine to have some sort of representation in The Lucid Nightmare. And by the way, The Lucid Nightmare may or may not be the final title – I haven’t decided yet.

I’ll reveal more details once I start writing the story. In the meantime, check out my horror-themed e-books:
